#031 PRESIDENT OF INDIA IS A VERY EXPENSIVE CREATURE

Organisers of various festivals and seminars, invite the President of India to inaugurate their fete.

The organisers know pretty well that President of India is a very expensive creature.   Expensive both for the State exchequer and the Organisers who invite him.

I estimate that every visit of President of India, to any location within India, will cost the Indian exchequer at least Rs. 5 crore or  about a million bucks.  These costs include Presidential aircrafts, helicopters, helipad renovations, upholstry and furniture at bungalows, President's security personnel, bureaucrats, etc.   I have not included the moneys spent by the State Governments for the visit of the Chief Ministers, Governors, Ministers, Secretaries, police officials and their security arrangements.  I am afraid, these are beyond my computative capabilities.

The hosts  also may have to spend something like Rs. 50 lacs or a 100000 dollars.

One live example:

Organisers have invited President to inaugurate a kUcipuDi dance festival.  Will it help the future of kUcipUDi dance really?

The organisers may be under the impression that once the President knows their problems, he will grant some funds from Central Government funds and aid to NGOs.

This may, sometimes, happen.

It is true that several performers of kUcipUDi dance art form are suffering at the lowest level.   Will the grants reach the performers at the lowest level?

One alternative

President can inaugurate the festival using electronic satellite signals from rAshTrapati bhavan.  He can release the amount thus saved on his FLIGHT and SECURITY and release it as ONE TIME GRANT for the survival of the kUcipuDi dance form (and also other disappearing draft forms from Indian States.).   He can spend his time thus saved,  on something which is crucial for the progress and security of India.
